Previously hiker resupply boxes that didn't have return addresses got opened and donated to the hiker box or otherwise called the "food bank".

I was speaking with another postmaster on the trail and told them this and quickly found out that is not the proper thing to do. The proper thing to do is to send it to the dead mail center in Georgia.
Also another postmaster said they try to track down the hikers before doing this. So.....I looked up all of the hikers that had boxes w/out return addresses. (16 total)
I found and messaged 2 on instagram and now I feel like a stalker.

one of the gals I looked up has "gone off social media" she had a ton of followers and seems to be some sort of influencer. Do I dare open her box?

There are some international boxes that I can't send back to them. Those I should send to the dead mail center.

AND THEN there are the 6 boxes that have been chewed on by mice or a chipmunk. 3 of those have been opened the rest patched. 1 was complete trash-everything had been eaten or chewed on by a critter and the person packed 2 gatorades which were either previously opened or they had expanded in the heat and one turned to syrup or the person sent themself some sort of syrup. Idiot.

I just found out some information about another entity here that will change this area and this experience for me greatly. It really sucks. And I can't even talk about it with anyone here because people don't know about it yet.

Well yesterday I watched that movie about the swimmer while at work. And I got some things done while it was playing in the background. Previoius postmasters have told me all of the things they used to do on Tue and Thur when there is no mail and it is really dead. I thought "I'm totally not going to do that" and I did it yesterday. LOL. Kind of fun.
