5 annoyingly brief trailers creates more clicks than 1 long trailer!

Although I never really was as worked up over supposed "whitewashing" as everyone else, after seeing the trailer I'm a little concerned too. I figured they would have set the story somewhere else if they were going to use non-Asian actors. But they chose the one route guaranteed to make the most people skittish -- leaving it in Japan and asking us to just pretend Scarlett is Asian. That was kinda dumb.

But it still looks awesome. I just hope there's some snark and a dash of humor/wit to balance out the serious tone of the trailer.

Maybe it's set in a future where Japanese people have genetically modified themselves to look white for some reason.

Duelling GITS:
Original ‘Ghost In The Shell’ Movie Returning To Theaters

by Patrick Hipes
January 9, 2017 8:45am

With Paramount’s live-action version of Ghost in the Shell starring Scarlett Johansson readying for its late-March bow, Lionsgate is getting into the action by teaming with Funimation Films to return the original 1995 anime film to the big screen. The iconic, Mamoru Oshii-directed pic that helped introduce the genre to a wide U.S. audience will hit 110 theaters on February 7-8, the companies said today, with both the original Japanese version with subtitles and the English dub to be offered.

In conjunction with the limited run, Lionsgate also is prepping a deluxe Blu-ray and DVD collector’s edition of the remastered original beginning March 7.

Paramount’s Ghost in the Shell, directed by Rupert Sanders, hits theaters March 31.
Paramount is probably crapping their pants -- people will really be comparing the two when it comes out since the original will be fresh in their minds.
